Job Description:

  • Meet with patients to obtain information about their complaints, symptoms, medical history, diet, lifestyle, and psychological health.
  • Make diagnoses and determine treatment strategies.
  • Explain procedures to patients and prepare them for treatment.
  • Following a procedure, consult with the patient about other therapy, diet, exercise, and emotional health.
  • Identify precise locations on a patient’s body where needles should be inserted, or where electrical or heat stimulation is to be applied.
  • Administer acupuncture treatment using sterile, single-use needles at specified locations to address patient’s chief complaint.
  • Formulate herbal preparations to treat conditions considering herbal properties such as taste, toxicity, effects of preparation, contraindications, and incompatibilities.
  • Dispense herbal formulas and inform patients of dosages and frequencies, treatment duration, possible side effects, and drug interactions.
  • Treat patients using tools such as needles, cups, ear balls, seeds, pellets, and nutritional supplements.
  • Evaluate effects of treatments by observing, noting, and evaluating patient’s progress and modifying when necessary.
  • Document patient treatments by charting in records.
  • Educate patients on topics such as meditation, ergonomics, stretching, exercise, nutrition, the healing process, breathing, and relaxation techniques.
  • Analyze physical findings and medical histories to make diagnoses according to Oriental medicine traditions.
  • Maintain safe and clean treatment environment and adhering to Clean Needle Technique protocols; complying with procedures, rules, regulations, and laws.
  • Comply with quality, safety, and infection-prevention protocols, as well as laws and regulations.
